A VERY HAPPY BIRTHDAY AT THE BEVERLY HILLS HOTEL

THE ARRIVAL

Beverly_Hills-Red Carpet.jpg

I recently celebrated my birthday & this year I knew I needed a trip. After all, I always say "the best birthdays happen out of your zip code," and did I pick a good one for June 12th. If you can get away even for a night, just being out of your every day environment makes any celebration more fun, because it takes away the pressure of having to do a big party. I was happy to be on vacation.

The Beverly Hills Hotel is also affectionately known at the Pink Palace as evidenced by the pleasantly hued edifice. Now, I have been to the hotel before, but not as an overnight guest. So this time, seeing that iconic sign as our car rolled up the drive it felt different. The hotel is as grand as it is at the same time relaxed. Is that a mark of the exceptional level of hospitality & customer service or the LA way, maybe a little of both. There was an entourage of staff & attendees to receive us as we entered the lobby, which had the most striking peony arrangement, my absolute favorite.

BIRTHDAY TREATS

The service & attention to detail was equal to some of the finest properties I have visited. The Beverly Hills Hotel is a Dorchester Collection hotel after all. There was champagne waiting for us in our gorgeous appointed suite. The walk in closet really allowed us to settle in. Being able to unpack in a hotel is a true luxury. They even sent a birthday cake & candles to the room to make sure we really indulged.

THE POLO LOUNGE

The property had so many great features like the equally famous, Polo Lounge where we met for pre dinner cocktails. The one I loved the most was appropriately named the El Corazon, a blood orange margarita with mescal & a black salt rim. The Polo Lounge is where we also luxuriated over decadent breakfast. It truly is a splurge to dine on property at a luxury hotel, but it was so worth it. The garden at the Polo Lounge is fragrant & cozy. They have everything you could want for breakfast including all the fresh juice concoctions, french toast, pancakes, eggs etc. The lunch there was also very satisfying and quite a scene with a much more bustling see & be seen vibe. I cannot tell you how many people got up from tables to greet people they knew.

OUT FOR THE EVENING

POOLSIDE FABULOUS

Down at the pool, the perfectly placed sun beds where well attended by servers from the neighboring cabana restaurant. Yes we did see a few celebs there, like Anwar Hadid, Courtney Cox & Lea Black from The Real Housewives of Miami. I even shared an elevator with Kevin O'Leary from Shark Tank.

A NEW FRIEND

I will also leave you with a funny story, that indicates the next level service we received. I travel with a little goat. A friend I picked up at the Schipol Airport in Amsterdam. Well he went missing the afternoon of my birthday. I assumed it was a mistake, perhaps he was rolled up in the sheets when they were changing the bed linens. At The Beverly Hills Hotel, the will change all the bed linens daily, by default, unless you indicate not to with a card. I must have forgotten to leave the card on the bed and left the goat in its place. I made a call to the front desk, they promised they would look into his disappearance, but when we returned from dinner he was not in sight. I made another call to the desk & they had found him. He was brought to the room in a sealed cellophane package and an internal police report, how official! They offered their sincerest apologies & even offered us champagne, but we were just so happy to have him back. The next morning the Director of Guest Relations for the property contacted us to make sure we were okay, which we reconfirmed we were more than fine and placed no blame on them. He told us a colorful story about how the goat was wrecking havoc at the pool and they had to cut him off and let him dry out in the back office. I guess I should be glad he was not found in a bath tub in bungalow 8. After we got off the phone our door bell rang, and the bell hop had a silver tray with a note & a bear on it, wearing a little The Beverly Hills Hotel Shirt. The not said " after careful consideration they thought it was in the goat's best interest to have a friend to look out for him." That is the Five Star difference, maybe even more.
