VIDEO: How an Oscar Statue is Created - You Have To See This!

R.S. Owens & Co, the Chicago company that has made the statues for Academy Award winners for over 30 years shared a little behind the scenes video inside their factory.

All Oscars are hand cast from molten metal at 500-600 degrees, now thats hot. In fact, every part of process is done by hand from casting to polishing Oscar to a mirror finish.

So what are his stats? Well, Oscar weighs 8.5 & comes in at 13 inches tall. Every oscar receives a serial number. Before he is packed & shipped off to Hollywood, Oscar is electroplated in 5 baths to receive his famous 24k gold finish.

This years oscars started production in November 2014 to be ready for the February awards presentation.

See Oscar this Sunday at the 87th Academy Awards at 8:30 on ABC. This Video originally appeared on CNN Money.
