The Burj Al Arab Turns 15

It is not your typical 15th Birthday BUT one year of celebrations seems fitting for the tallest and most luxurious hotel in the world to celebrate turning 15. Over the past two decades Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates has launched Dubai into the world of luxury tourism and the Burj Al Arab has been a keystone in creating this image. Some estimate the Sheik spent over 1 billion pounds to construct the hotel atop one of Dubai’s first manmade islands. The inspiration behind this design was to create an image of a massive sail emerging from the water, a true symbol of this coastal playground for the world’s elite.

The celebration commences on Decemeber 1st with a firework extravaganza, combined with a 3D mapping projection on the Burj’s iconic sail. The Burj Al Arab has now made its way into the landmark structures of the globe and deserves a celebration to be remembered for years.

And, it wouldn’t be a birthday celebration if a Hermès box wasn’t involved. Hermès has been a partner since the inauguration of the hotel on December 1st, 1999. Each of the luxury suites at the hotel is appointed with Hermès amenities. Hermès has collaborated with the Burj to create special gifts that showcase the 15 years of history the two share.
